Also try a spending diary. Apart from that can you list the credit cards - perhaps you could try and attack them one at a time? you are showing a small surplus and with the council tax free months you could start attacking one? also there may be options to do balance transfers etc to minimise the interest?
Also the more obvious things like selling what you can and trying to do overtime etc or possibly a second job? even a few hours a week in a pub or something would help.

The money spare listed has been going on the things you've pointed out I should account for further up
I can probably do some overtime to try to make some headway, but I'm more concerned with reducing what I can to ensure I can always pay everything - rather than having to rely on extra income.dancingfairy wrote: »That depends very much on how discipline you are - from what you've said re 'breathing space' and spending money when you're bored would you be able to make sure that the mortgage repayment got put straight towards the other debts? otherwise I suspect that all you will have done is missed some mortgage payments (which no doubt will mean making them up at the end or extra interest?), getting used to having such a low mortgage payment and having not really made any headway in the other debts.
I would try and stabilise the situation for now and then review the situation in a few months time.

Yes I agree, I guess I'm just trying to make sure I've got enough to meet payments in the immediate without thinking I'll have to pay the rest back0 -
I can understand you not wanting to live with someone again, particularly if it is a small flat, but perhaps you could look at an alternative option - it could help you out a lot.
mondaytofriday.com hooks up people who live a long way from their work (on secondments, middle of relocating etc) and people who have a room to let, but want their own space at weekends. I know one mate who let their spare room out from Monday night to Friday morning, with use of the bathroom and kitchen, only had to change the sheets and provide fresh towels once a week etc, and made £180 per week. If you are in a good location, it can be more.
She also ended up having a few girly nights out with the tenant too - similar ages, and both on their own during the week, it's someone to go to the pictures with. If you work from home too, isolation can be an issue.
Good luckSome days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

For gas and elec for a semi detached house with two occupants, we spend just under half what you do - so you should be able to make a big saving there. Our boiler is old, not a modern efficient one, we have the thermostat at 18 degrees and turn things off as much as possible. Also, line curtains, hang curtains over doors etc and draw curtains at dusk and tuck them behind radiators to reflect heat into the room not out of the windows.Debt at highest: £8k.
