Original Creditor vs Collection Agency

Having buried my head in the sand for a few months (financially went to ruin again after a year of good paying!) - I am trying again to deal with outstanding debts.
I had been paying creditors such as barclaycard, argos, etc but in the months that I hadn't paid, they have referred accounts to collection agencies such as Mercers, Capital and Moorcroft.
My question is - Now that I'm ready, can I open a dialogue with the original creditors or is it too late now that collection agencies are involved? Would I now need to deal with them instead?
Apologies if this has been asked before, but I feel as if I only have 5 minutes left to deal with this!
Thanks

Providing the accounts have not actually been sold, you can still deal with the OC.
Mercers are part of BC anyway - just in house collectors.Happiness, is a Kebab called Doner.....:heart2::heart2:0 -
