I AM THE OP AND I HAVE NEVER EVEN HEARD OF INSUREMENOT.COM.

I HAVE NOT RE-LISTED MY QUESTION WITH ANY OTHER SITE AS I ALWAYS GET BRILLIANT ANSWERS VIA MSE!!

    THANKS FOR POINTING IT OUT!

I don't think there is any need to shout.

How can he possibly be worse off when he will be getting £50 a week extra? Quite apart from that, this is a very narrow minded view to have - he is learning valuable skills that will hopefully set him up for his working career.

With all due respect...It's quite simple really...IF he doesn't live at home and has the benefit of giving a token amount of money that us parents usually ask for (I think somebody used £30 a week as an example, which in my experience is about average), in the hope we are giving our kids some preparational ( Ooops...I don't think that's even a word, but I'm sure you get what I mean ) responsibilty for when they do finally fly the nest. :j
Then before anything he will have to think about how he is going to provide himself with food, shelter, warmth etc etc. You can't effectively study/train if your homeless, cold & hungry !
IF he was sat on his backside & claiming JSA then he would get ALL his rent & council tax paid ( not forgetting free prescriptions & dental treatment should the need for these arise)...which I can assure you will amount to much more than the £50 difference between JSA & Apprentice wage.
Not so much " a very narrow minded view " More the stark reality of life unfortunately !? :(
  • Speak to the provider ( I assume a College) about the progression opportunities. If they have worked with the employer before then they will know how likely they are to take him on after his apprenticeship. Also, speak to them about what opportunities there are for progression onto an Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3 qualification). Please dont let him turn this opportunity down though.

Why does he need a car? I cycled 6 miles to my first job, while saving up to get a moped. Cars weren't on the agenda!
