Cheapest Rice for dog food!

Does anyone know where I can buy sacks of broken rice - preferably brown - as I cook it to add to non-human grade meat for my dogs? My local supermarket rice prices have steadily grown and I want to keep the cost of feeding two large, hungry beasts at a fiver a week. Help!

I can't find any brown rice which is reasonably cheap.

The lowest price I can find is Asda Smartprice white long grain rice which is 60p a kilo. A lot of the grains in these packets will be broken which is why it's so cheap.

I wonder if Aldi or Lidl are worth checking. Their prices may not be significantly cheaper though they do tend to be a few pennies cheaper than supermarkets.

Just spotted this as well: Badshah Basmati Rice (10 kg) £11 on Amazon. ASDA are also selling Badshah Basmati Rice for the same price.

Do you have a B&M Bargains near you? They were selling 1gk bags of long grain rice (not great rice apparently) for 50p a few weeks back and 1kg bags of Tilda long grain rice for 99p.
  • hi, i was wondering do dogs eat rice?from my life experence, beasts tend to be feed on meats. anyway, hope your dog feel comfortable with their food, and they are luck to possess a well-concerned host. good luck for them!

Thanks everyone, I'll check the pricing as suggested. We are down in the bottom South East corner of the UK without much of anything in the way of bargain shopping. The brown rice does help keep their tummys good and healthy, but I'll use the cheapest I can find!

The rice is cooked and mixed with non-human grade meat which my local butcher does sell at a great price of £2.50 for a 5lb bag so the cheaper the rice keeps the whole weekly bill down. I just add veg peelings from our meal preparation to make sure they get their fresh vitamins!

Have you tried mad dog feeds on ebay. This is just one example of what they sell. I get the hypoallergenic one as my pooch has a dickie tummy with wheat.

Really good food, hypoallergenic and human grade meat is used. My dog loves it and it lasts forever and you can buy in bulk to keep costs down, much better than the expensive £45 a bag Burns food that i used to buy her.
