LED torch

I wanna buy...............an LED police torch as they appear to be extremely useful in that they are small, light, reliable and have a spot beam that seemingly takes some beating and sell for about £30. On many website, people give good recommendations, however I'm not too enthusiastic about those write-ups being genuine.
Does anyone have this type of torch and if so, does it fulfil your expectations.
and finally, lumen's?, exactly what is this, I assume it is similar to watts but I'm guessing. Many of the torches say 70 lumen's, whilst others are 120 lumen's.

Lumens are the measure by which the brightness is measured, but you can get other torches with similar output for less. The more important measure of quality is the LED bulb itself. Cree Q5 is a top quality light that will give you plenty of light and last a long time.
I personally use this one, but got mine for about £25 through a deal on Amazon if memory serves. I use it on my bike, and can see for about 20 meters very clearly when it's on full beam. There are lower settings and a flashing option which elongate the battery time, but I need to be able to see where I'm going in the dark so I just leave it on full whack and use rechargeable AA batteries in it which I change every couple of weeks (around 2-3hrs constant use). The lower settings would last 3 or 4 times longer btw.
Hope that helps:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Please don't be offended if that opinion differs from yours, but feel free to click the 'Thanks' button if it's at all helpful!0 -

Yes and yes . Got mine from Millets for only £19 a real bargain. Went from a Large Magnite to a torch only a few inches long ( looks like a toy, next to the Magnite ) Very happy.0 -

I bought a P7 LED torch from Deal Extreme and I'm really impressed with it for the price (£20 delivered). It's supposed to be 900 lumens (but that's very likely to be an exaggeration - a theroretical maximum of the LED itself, rather than the measured output of the torch).
I use mine as a bike light and it's brilliant (literally) in dense forest at night. On the odd occasion I've used it indoors, I notice that it gets pretty warm within 10 minutes or so, but obviously that's not a problem on a bike as it has a constant stream of cool air flowing over it.

Delivery time is likely to be between 1 and 2 months, however...0 -
Deal Extreme are worth looking at, but you may have to wait a few weeks for delivery & I've heard of a few items being held at customs for duty because the come from China.
Post the eBay link and I'll check if you like.:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Its quite heavy and well built and you can have floodlight and also a smaller focused beam and a low powered version, think it takes 3 AAA batteries0 -
Lidl are selling a Cree LED for £9.99.

The P7, to clarify, is the LED package made by Seoul Semi. There are numerous flashlights built using the P7 LED.
The LED package itself is listed at £23
I expect the reviews you have read are genuine. I have a few P7-based flashlights and thay are all exceptional. Not much between them in terms of output, beam width, intensity switching and consistency (lack of artefacts). The ergonomics of the flashlight are a matter of personal taste.
What is your intended use of the flashlight?
I would suggest though getting one with two intensity levels; you don't want to be flashing a P7 or CREE in someone's face.
You can get expert advice on:

There is a subforum in the LED flashlight forum on CPF for budget lights.
Some of the forum members are serious flashlight collectors and modders.

The CREE Xlamp MC-E LED packages are listed at about the same as the Seoul P7 packages, so getting a complete flashlight for just under £10 is a deal.0
