I just had another thought...perhaps your clothes aren't drying properly? I know this happens in our house, especially this time of year...0

wow! I've never heard of this! I chuck loads of powder and conditioner in the machine...it smells but then the clothes don't necessarily smell much of the conditioner at the end when they have dried anyway!
I had a MASSIVE electric bill (5 weeks was the same price and 3 months in the summer!!!) so decided to buy a clothes horse and dry stuff in the house on that when it's bad weather outside..only problem is no matter how much conditioner I use the clothes are stiff once dried so I am off to go buy some vinegar and use less powder...I'll let you know what I think! lol
Thanks for the great tip!Why does my dog chase cars? Even if he caught one he hasn't passed his test!0 -
I use a third of the amount of powder suggested by most of the powder manufacturers, and it's still hard to get it all out in the rinse. I never realised until I started lifting the hose out of the plumbing to use the rinse water on the garden and saw how soapy it was even at the end of the wash. Conditioner seems to mask a lot of the effects but it's easier and much cheaper to use much less powder and vinegar. Most of the actual dirt removal happens becausese of the agitation of the washing in the machine, so you only need a little soap to help matters along.
If you look at the home made soap recipes then they usually suggest 2 tablespoons of mixture per wash, Which would be less than a tablespoon of soap, the rest being washing soda (water softener makes other ingredients more efficient and helps shift stains) and borax (very mild bleach and stain remover).0 -
ooooh, just put a load in the machine and used white vinegar for the 1st time but....as i pured the white vinegar into the fabric conditioner draw it just poured out of the draw into the machine, is this normal or is it the machine do you think?
anyone else who uses vinegar, please can you let me know if your does this...this is before I had even turned the machine on btw!!!!

well ive never done it before but I put in about 1/2 the fabric draw (same as fabric conditioner) as that's what i've read other people suggest..How much vinegar do you use per wash?
the washing is done and now on the clothes horse...seems to smell fresh enough so I hope it worked, I suppose I'll find out if they dry rock solid or not! lolWhy does my dog chase cars? Even if he caught one he hasn't passed his test!0 -
