I'm sure the treatment you need will fall into the £42.40 bracket.
You might have embarrassed him into doing it in the Band 1 bracket, but don't complain if it is Band 2. That's where it should be.
The symptoms you describe from Wikipaedia are the obvious symptoms.
You can have underlying perio problems in an apparently healthy mouth.
From that point of view, I do think your dentist is on the ball at spotting it, and I wouldn't dismiss him too lightly just because he is trying to make a go of the nHS contract. If his choice was that or bankruptcy, you can have a bit of sympathy.
At least he is doing the correct treatment even if he is charging incorrectly according to his contract.
I have seen several mouths from the NHS place down the road from me where stuff is just ignored. That is a far worse sin in my books. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
Update: He has called and said he checked and it is covered within the £15.50 I have already paid. Next appointment in a week.
In the long term I am definitely changing dentist as I have no faith in this one now. I suppose this suits him too as he will not be able to overcharge me from now on anyway.
Thanks for all the help here guys, especially Toothsmith who is a brilliant forum member. I just remembered you advised me on my toothbrush as well last year. Thank you..0
