Bankruptcy just because of Cabot? That's ridiculous. MAKE them prove you owe it. Unless you have acknowledged the debt within a 6 year period, it's getting close to being Statute Barred by now. It's entirely feasible that you could stretch out a complaint long enough to get this past that point.

I sense a distinct feeling of Pay What You Owe from some posters here (forgive me if I'm wrong) but you need to bear in mind that Cabot will have, at best, paid 10 pence in the pound for this alleged debt. So morally, who cares? My own personal opinion is, the debt purchase industry are the bottom feeders of the financial world. And worthy of no more consideration than you would give any other parasite.
