Tax allowance on S.A wrong. How to reclaim?

hello

hubby is employed and has tax code of the basic tax allowance plus £80 because he has to supply own tools for his work.

He also does self assessment because we had rental property. On his wage slip tax code is tax allowance plus £80 but when he did the S.A,. at the calculation stage, it gave him the basic allowance without the £80.

Sorry if sound total numpty but is there error here? I assume the tax allowance taken into consideration in his wage packet but has he then paid too much tax on his other income on self assessment. If you see what I mean?

If so, does he contact self assessment services or tax office used by his company?

thanks MSEs

You have to claim it on the SA Return. Either box 18 or 20 on the SA102.

If you filed online then you need to Login and amend the Return. If on paper you need to write to HMRC.

Bear in mind the £80 allowance only translares to (£80 @ 20% =) £16 in tax.

Yes if you did it online. You just login and amend it
