Staffordshire Photographers?

Options
Are there any Staffordshire or surrounding area MSE people that can recommend a photographer?

I'm asking for ones you actually used or considered please. I'm only looking to spend £300, maybe 400 at a push. But ideally a lot less. I only want photos after the ceremony, not for the entire day as all the guests will have their own cameras too.

So far we've seen 2, the first was £180 but he does it as a hobby. His photos were acceptable but not to a high standard.
The second guy was £250 for the basic package which was just what we need. He gave us a leaflet, but on closer inspection his email addy is yahoo and although he has registered his domain name the website does not exist yet. So he's clearly not the professional he was making out to be...

Does anyone have a recommended photographer? I'm googleing around now but I'd like to hear from people that actually used them too.

You are not going to get a professional photographer for under £300 unfortunately. There's no way anyone could make a living out of it so the people you will get are part time photographers or those who do it as a hobby.

No-one with photos of a high standard would charge £180! You are looking at at least £500 for a professional If you need any more advice drop me a PM. To cut costs you could hire a professional who offers a smaller package for smaller ceremonies - and say just get the ceremony and a few group shots. There's also a post on here titled 'choosing a photographer' that may help you, someone put out a warning as they have recently been let down by choosing a cheaper photographer. Hope this helps.

If you want to save costs then you could try to get someone who is starting out, though sounds like you have discounted one already.

You can get a good deal with photographers, but, you do need to be careful. There are alot of people who can take a good photo, and a lot fewer who can take lots of good photos, whilst commanding a crowd, getting everyones attention so they are looking the right way, and making sure that the shot is good.

I would think about your budget, you will be spending a lot on the whole day, and all you will have left is the photos, so you need to be sure.

If it helps, try www.talkphotography.co.uk - there may be someone who can help, but you'll need to give dates, location and exactly what you want. You may get some people telling you a little more sternly that you won't get what you want, but I would hope someone on there can help, and there are some very good photographers on there.

  • I work part time as a wedding photographer and while i recognize your issue re budget would urge you to be cautious. I take a minimum of £10,000 worth of equipment to each wedding and insurance costs £500 a year. It's just not possible to cover a wedding for £180 but some professional local photographers may give you an hour of their time at a good rate if you're on an off peak day. This can work well if you can be really specific on your timing and realise that even half an hour of a professionals time is better than paying £180 to someone you may never see again.Best of luck
