Since finding this site I've seen it as a challenge to clear some/all of my debts. I've been doing Bodyshop parties to earn extra money, and everything I've earnt from that has been going in to savings and as soon as I get enough to pay one account off, I do so and start saving for the next one. I've paid Next their £800, and was on my way to getting rid of Egg but at the weekend some S*** broke in to my car and stole the sterio and bu**ered the door!! So I've got to pay the £150 excess now, loose my no claims and I've also had to cancel 2 parties this week cause I've got no car, arghh!!! I know worse things happen to other people but it just really upset me, I work really hard for my money, why does someone feel they have a right to just come and take my things from me?! I was very tempted to blow the lot and cher my self up with a nice shopping trip but I resisted!

Firstly, well done on resisting the shopping splurge, you've shown that your lightbulb is well and truly on!
Depending on how many years no claims etc you've got, is it worth not getting the repair done through the insurance? Wondering if paying out £100 or so now will save you more when it comes to renewal?

:A Ahh, that's so sweet you all replied so quickly! It's restored my faith in human kind, well done! They done a lot of damage to the door, and in the process of jimmying (SP?) the door open they also buckled the roof, so the garage are checking it out now but it may even be a write off, I did look in to paying for it myself Storm but unfortunately isn't an option. It's just so anoying that they'll probably just get £50 for my stereo and it's cost me so much more! I'm lucky I've got some money saved away though, I guess some people would struggle to find the £150 excess so at least I've got that. And I wont let it stop me! I really am a changed woman since finding this site. I only ever spend cash in the shops now so it seems real, I know one of the tips is not to carry cash, but I used to be a nightmare with the credit cards because it's just not like spending money, so I only do cash now! Hey, it works for me.:j0

I like the theory TS-aly, but it doesn't always work in practice...my landlord drives an old heap of a car, about 20 years old now. He lives in an area where there's BMWs, audis, even a Lotus parked on the street. And his old heap was the car that was stolen! Apparently the police told him there's been a spate of old car thefts recently, they think they're being stolen to order and shipped to somewhere in Africa.
So you can't win!

Ahh, I'm calmer now, my sister has said she'll drive me to the parties, she said she'd like to come along to a couple anyway (I don't think she would really, but very nice of her to pretend she would) so thats that problem sorted, and my mum is going to do the school run for me because we live too far away to walk. And it's just a set back, that's all, that which does not kill us ... and all that! And thanks for all your support, it's nice to hear.
And ts-aly, you're right about different values and different things being important. I used to value my babies looking good, they were dressed head to toe in Next, had the best toys/prams/clothes, but had a very stressed, worried mummy. Now they're dressed in rags but we're happy!! Ok, we haven't really resorted to that but I've realised all that isn't that important, they don't need the best of everything, kids aren't that materialistic when they're little, we inflict it on them.0
