Thanks you all for all the replies.

I actually injured my arm around 12 weeks ago - but thought I had just pulled a muscle :o - it was only when I couldn't even lift the duvet or turn over in bed that I realised that it may be a bit more serious .

Although I should rest that arm I need to go into work (have had only one half day per week for the last 6 weeks - and now it's starting to pick up). I am using that arm as little as possible, but when I get home it just hurts like crazy and it is affecting my sleep :(. Just hope the hospital appointment comes through soon.

sleep ... yes ... Well, one tip which may help is to cuddle a pillow!

Actually the bed is full of pillows ... I have a V-pillow, half of it is under my pillow and the other half is the demarcation line between me and DH. My shoulder goes on that, and that helps. I start off lying on my back, but there's a pillow longwise on my body, supporting the lower arm. That one really comes into its own when I turn over onto my side: I stick it under my armpit and manipulate the pillow until the arm is comfy. Sometimes it's on my side, sometimes it wants to flop across my tummy, but the pillow is the key to getting comfy.

GP may be able to prescribe something, do ask. I use OTC drugs during the day but I have prescription drugs for last thing at night.

I dislocated my shoulder a couple of years ago playing rugby. Voltarol is your friend! It took the edge off the pain nicely so the nausea died down!!! Stick on heat packs ROCK.

be careful it's been properly assessed - i got told time after time that mine was sprained and made to walk on it, and after 8 months they realised it was torn ligaments, if it hurts please be careful with it!!

If the swelling doesn't go down soon go to the drs and they might refer you to a physio or ultrasound technicians (weird i know!) to break down the swelling as it could hamper recovery x

Thanks for the advice (if we are allowed to call it that on here :D)- maybe 'suggestion'!

Also thanks to the previous poster, I will look up the Bowen technique.

Have had a sprained ankle/torn ligaments before last year in the summer, later about 5-6 months before the swelling went down, was a grade 2 if my understanding is correct (took about a month before I could walk normally as a result of the pain and then a further month or two before it was totally fine) so am sort of used to it, apparently they will occur more as I have torn the ligaments once already.

This time I don't think its as bad as I could limp home OK (last time I had to cling to the wall as I went anywhere and was like that for a week). Its gotten better since I caused it (tripped/slid on a step then repeated the same thing 4 days later...:rotfl:).

Have chosen not to see a doctor as I didn't need to last time and it got better, I am able to look up physio type websites for tips on rehab exercises which did help a great deal and read up on whats happened and what needs to happen for it to heal. Circulation seems to be key as does RICE. It seems to be working OK and did last time, just takes time.

Am aware the swelling will hang around for months after its healed just glad this time around I am not wearing sandles at the same time!!

BTW Frugalista, have you been given a timescale for your scan? If not, I would ask. And see if your GP will make the referral more urgent.

And if you are offered one but with a long wait, if you can possibly accept a short notice cancellation I would phone them and say so.
