No,I think they are completely biased as they just want to advertise the product.I look for opinions online, either looking to see if someone has blogged about the product or reviewed it on one of the opinion websites

I rarely buy magazines, unless theres a good free gift as they are basically just catalogues now,no decent reading material unless you buy something like prima or good housekeeping , and im far too young for those!

I don't believe any hype/articles. I read them occasionally but I go by recommendations from people I know, the opinions of the good ladies on this forum :) and my own trial and error.

Re SPF, yes, I do believe that it's vital. I have never gone outside with less than SPF15 on my face since I was about 18. And I am always complimented on my good skin. It definitely makes a difference. The other essentials are plenty of sleep, water, a good diet, not smoking and going easy on the alcohol. These are more valuable than any miracle product. One of my friends smokes and is a total sun worshipper... she is 2 years younger than me but looks 10 years older! She is starting to get lines around her eyes and on her forehead that she should not have at that age!!!

I don't take any notice of product reviews in magazines because they are so dependent on advertising revenue that they will never criticise the big companies. Have you ever seen them slag off a product by someone like L'oreal? They are not alone in this of course. I buy a few craft magazines and they write gushing reviews of any product made by one of the big craft companies.

I once got onto one of those beauty review panels on a magazine. I left after three months because they kept editing any negative comments out of my reviews. One of the creams I reviewed was £46 a pot and I was worried that someone would rush out and buy it based on my review.

I do like picking up tips from magazines though. E.g. I noticed my nails stopped breaking so much when I changed the way I cut them thanks to a magazine tip.

nope, never taken any notice of magazines, they're out there to promote the products who pay them

    Same here.

I have religiously used sunblock since I was 19 though, after reading a book by Leslie Kenton. I prefer to read things like The Beauty Bible, with real women's reviews.

  • Regarding SPF, a consultant at the Liz Earle counter told me that you would need to put it on every hour or so which you don't do on your face if you are just out and about in the day time unless you have no make up on, she said it is more for if you are sunbathing. Having said that I use a tinted moisturiser or foundation with some SPF in so I suppose that counts as something :)
