i got then from top catridge via amazon were a few pence cheaper with postage.

I'm not sure about your 2nd question - i need to find out about that aswell - will ring the refil service up before and ask..

Not usually, though when the printer primes the new cartridge, it could use the ink left in the other one

If you have a tri colour cartridge, it has to be replaced if one colour runs out

i bought ink cartridges from printerinkcartridges .ie - available in re-manufactured. They have epson ink cartridges so i am sure they would have your printer model

Definately get the XL cartridges they are more than worth the extra money and last loads longer, you have to be careful with amazon and ebay although they are cheaper would always recommend checking the feedback and the postage which can sometimes bump it up, but to be fair thats well cheap for a 350 and 351 cartridge if they work with decent ink in them.
