    haven't time to read all of the thread, but can I just mention that the heating panel thing is a closed system and it's the coil of tube with heated water within that goes into the water that will be sent to your pipes, so it would heat it up a fair amount for free ,then any topping up could be done by electricity if required, but- on 'it's not easy being green' the bloke burned his hand on a tube that was sitting in normal daylight,not bright sunlight,and burnt his hand,so it could get hot enough.

    For combi boiler systems there is no need fro 60degrees as the water is not being stored, so yes,you can reduce the temp.

    We have a heatguard fitted in our bathroom sink which uses less hot water for handwashing by adding cold water- more for safety than to save hot water,but it does both,leaving the hot water in the tank for later.

  • i cant find a thermostat on my boiler! mind you it has cardboard box around it whihc cant be removes unless ripped as it has been fitted before the pipes have been placed. I have no idea how old it is either. grr to hot water scalding my hands.

    If your boiler isn't a combi and heats radiators too, you will have to have the temperature set to scalding to get any useful heat into your rooms.
    Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.
