RICS-Jan: Prices falling in less than half the country, 3rd month of improvement

  • And still, prices are falling.

    .

In a minority of areas, and very modestly even there.

In most of the country, prices are stable or rising.
a majority of respondents actually reported that prices were unchanged between December and January. Moreover, of those that did signal a shift in prices the vast majority suggested that the drop was very modest .

So pretty much the opposite of the stonking great crash the bears have been calling for the last 6 months then....

    More like mild seasonal fluctuations.

Selective reading of the report. ;)
Disaggregating the price picture shows that all regions in the survey continued to record negative net price balances in January

Housing market gets off to a bad start, says RICS

    Wednesday 9th February 2011
Lack of buyer demand and low levels of supply got the housing market off to a poor start this year, the RICS has reported.

In its usual baffling RICS-speak, the survey said that 7% more surveyors reported that demand for property fell rather than rose.

New instructions were also “moderately negative, with 3% more surveyors reporting instructions fell rather than rose”.

Newly agreed sales continued to drop, while weakness in market activity was also reflected in actual sales transactions.

RICS estate agency members sold an average of 14.6 houses in the three months to January. This compares with a reading of 15.2 in December and is the lowest figure since June 2009.

Meanwhile, 31% more surveyors reported that house prices fell rather than rose in January.

RICS spokesperson Ian Perry said: “Uncertainty over the prospects for employment, alongside the shortage of mortgage finance, particularly for first-time buyers, continues to weigh heavily on transactions levels.

    Pathetic.

I mean, really. I bet Hamish spends hours scouring the internet for any (what he thinks is) positive news about the UK property market.

What could have be viewed as a generous act of buying a second property for an elderly relative to live in, can now be seen a selfish act of greed. He's not even subtle about it, with his public displays of , every time he thinks that his "act of kindness" is likely to make him wealthier.

You are not much of a class act, are you Hamish ?
30 Year Challenge : To be 30 years older. Equity : Don't know, don't care much. Savings : That's asking for ridicule.
  • How sad. You lot continue to debate about if prices are really falling or rising and other more realistic people are watching and planning.

...In most of the country, prices are stable or rising.
    ...

that's a bit like saying something like, 'most family pets are dogs, cats, or unicorns'.

literally correct perhaps but pointlessly imprecise and misleading.

with respect m8 i don't really think you're clever enough to properly, convincingly, spin data like this.
    FACT.

Great thread, Thx hamish, I'm glad your around as it gives the thinking people on the forum a bit of cannon fodder, where's Sibley these days anyway and the GHOUL? seems they legged it and have left you to stand pretty much alone. Respect though for sticking to your guns and standing up and arguing for what you believe, even though its a lost cause.
