Tips for cutting food bill?

Hi everyone:)
I'm writing this post after reading a thread giving a menu plan and recipies for £12 a week!
I currently live in a shared household with a basic food bill of at least £100 a week, for five-seven people. The reason I say 5-7 is there are two friends that don't live here, but still expect to be fed a few nights each week:P. We may also have more people over, probably once a week at the weekend, so sometimes cook for up to ten people.
But, the £100 bill is VERY basic, just the bones, we individually buy whatever else we want, buy milk and bread separately, don't include alochol/toiletries in the shop bill and usually eat out/get a takeaway atleast once a week.
I have thought about putting our money together and buying ALL meals, for seven days a week, to see how much we can save. Where I come unstuck is looking for recipies that cater to so many people...they're always for four people. And it seems planning menu's by recipe ends up costing more than we spend now.
We are all trying to be reasonably healthy too, watch our calories, and get our five fruit and veg in. Is this an impossible ask? Any advice appreciated!:)

Hi,
I take it the shared household are all adults?
The £12.00 was possibly for one person, I certainly hope so anyway
May I ask - "The reason I say 5-7 is there are two friends that don't live here, but still expect to be fed a few nights each week:P." What if any is the contribution towards food here:) do you decamp to their house anytime?
Following a receipe dose tend to work out expensive. It does help to see what you already have and buying a few things to make meals.
We tend to have cheapish evening meals, with salad on the side or fruit for pudding, getting the healthy bit that way.
What sort of meals do you eat at the moment? and are you looking for just evening meal type meals or breakfasts and pack-ups as well?0 -
Lucky mates you have! I hope they bring wine and pudding!
Anyway if I was in that situation I would be sticking to things like: spag bol, veggie curry, veggie chilli, meat chilli, stews, casseroles, pasta bakes etc. I would also buy in bulk and try to use everything up!
Always look in the fridge before you go shopping. Always look in what I call the bargain bin in the super market for any bargains and with lots of people around you can take advantage of BOGOFs.
Good luck!!Since starting again after beanie: June 2016: Child development DVDs, Massive Attack tickets. July: Aberystwyth trip, hotmilk nightie. Aug: £10 Hipp Organic vouchers, powerpack. September: Sunglasses. October: £30 poundland vouchers.0
