Council deposit question

Hi Guys and Gals
We are due to move out in 2 1/2 weeks and we have a problem.
The council paid oyr deposit for us £450 when we moved in 16 months ago and we had to and have been payng it back.
We still owe £280 and our now paying it back at £15 per week and have 19 weeks to go.
When we move will the council take the money they are owed out of our deposit because if they do we are screwed and homeless.
As far as i remember it didnt have any terms and conditions set out just that you had to pay the council back in full.
We got a letter from them last week confirming that we had 19 repayments left .
Can they just take the money or not?
The reason that we are moving is that the flat is too small by far and it has no radiators in the bedrooms and it isnt doing our 16mth old any good .
Any help would be brilliant

i reckon if its a deposit then it should be returned for you at the end of the tenancy. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Thanks Lynzpower,
I assumed that aswell because its like a loan because uyou just have to pay the council back.

I would double check that - surely if you still owe them the money then they take it back? I would call them and explain the situation. Rather find out sooner what would happen then they just take the money when you leave.0
