Advice needed - car lease charges
basically i have terminted my car agreement with black horse. I have to return the car next week. i was wondering if anyone had any experience on the charges which are applied after the inspection of the car. for example, if there is a slight dent do they charge for this?
if anyone has been in the same situation any advice would be great! thanks

Hi.
I work in the car leasing industry and although we don't do personal leases, I can't imagine there would be a great deal of difference in the way it is handled upon collection!
There are 2 ways it could play out. The vehicle will most likely be sent to auction. An inspector will have a look at the vehicle and record any damage etc that will affect the sale price. They will then either charge you for the repairs, or sell the vehicle without the repairs and charge you the loss they *think* was incurred by the damages.
Assuming that by "lease" you mean a contract hire vehicle, you should have a look at this:.
You can also look at this from which follows the BVRLA guidlines. (no I don't work for Lombard )
If you think the damage is unnacceptable fair wear and tear i would advise you to arrange for the repairs yourself. They will charge you through the teeth for the simplest of repairs.
EDIT: Darn it I'm not allowed to post links... Google "BVRLA Fair Wear and Tear guidelines" though.0 -
Hi,
I returned an Audi about 2 years ago, there was some severe paintwork damage on the rear bumper (don't ask but entirely my fault), I had this resprayed professionally. Other than that it had a couple of marks on the wheels and trim that were entirely fair wear and tear. I took photos of these areas myself prior to the return of the vehicle.
The only small problem I had was due to a mix-up they charged me one extra months lease but I was able to sort that out and got my money back.
Basically, be anal about the car yourself, take photos of every little blemish and mark - judge it far harsher then anyone else would, that way if something comes back that you disagree with, you have your own evidence to back it up.
As it happens, I had no problems with the inspection, but just be prepared with evidence yourself. Give it a good clean and valet so it looks it's best as well. I agree with MCam, if you know it is probably going to be charged (as I knew my bumper would be), get it done yourself. It cost me £300 but I'd hate to think what it might have been charged at if left.April 2008 - Epiphany - At least £28K owed to 5 CC's

As long as the tyres fall within the the BVRLA guidelines, ie within legal tread depth and absent of any side damage then no they shouldn't charge you for it.
Ybbon66's suggestion of taking pictures of the car before hand is not a bad one at all. Also take a picture of the odometer if your cobtract has any mileage agreements. Also check your agreement regarding the collection. They sometimes charge fuel costs and again it will be a lot more expensive than if you topped up yourself!!
Please excuse typos! I'm doing this on my phone!
Do you happen to know how the collection company is?0 -
