Old Debt

Hi,

I've been contacted by a debt collection agency asking me to pay £142 for an outstanding debt to O2 going back to Aug 2006.
I have contacted O2 for proof of this and all they can send is a copy of my 'last bill' showing £142 - they can't send me anything to say I have or have not paid.
Should should I do?
Thanks!

    Hi

    Did you pay it?
Can you show proof of payment by your bank statement or similar?

It would be near impossible for them to provide proof you haven't paid for something.

If you owe it, pay it.
If you do not, contest it.

If you "don't recall" then there's a pretty good chance you owe it, see point 1 above.

You are some way off 6 years statute barred defence.

  • The thing is, in the past another debt agency contacted me about this, it was looked into and the agency said I didn't have to pay, so I was hoping this would be the same - gutted!
probably going to end up paying it, but it will go into my DMP so they'll prob only get £2 per month!
