MSE News: Flaw revealed in John Lewis 'Never Knowingly Undersold' price guarantee

I just submitted a price check for an item I had bought from them and it was rejected on the basis that the retail shop and the website "having different branding" - even though the contact page of the website gives the retail shop address clearly and all the phone numbers match. The store definately exists. Not really that bothered, but I thought it was a bit of a poor excuse as it is clearly the web interface for the bricks and mortar shop (a small independent store).
To be fair, I've never had a problem with JLs customer service - they've always been pretty good when I needed to contact them, but I can't say I would be bothered to submit price checks again.
The only reason I ordered from JL in the first place was because it could be delivered to work tbh and only a handful of retailers would stock the item anyway.
