Urgent help needed - Santander nightmare

    Thanks for your help.

We had planned to get rid of the car last year but unfortunately not found a buyer. The plan was to sell it off and then pay Santander a small mothly payment for the owed amout.

The last option is to sell it to 'we buy any car' and then pay Santander an amount after getting a cheap banger.

The problem we are facing is that if they take it off her then they are likely to sell it for pittance and then she has no car.

    Think that's best?

Are you serious??? Apart from anything else it is probably against the T&C's of the loan.

NickDJ, you're in a cr*ppy situation and I can see it's made worse by having your in-laws stressing you out too. But we need to keep emotion out of this, the bank do not care that your Mrs needs a car or that you're facing problems (beyond them getting back what you promised to repay).

Fristly as mentioned above you need to establish exactly *what kind* of finance agreement you have as this makes all the difference. It makes the difference between whether you can sell it, or if the finance company can sell it, etc. If it's a decent car, however, one way or the other it's getting sold ASAP to pay back Santander :-( Yes, you will lose money on the deal.
  • Selling the car would also probably be a criminal offence, if the loan is secured on it, as ownership won't pass to you until the end of the credit agreement is fulfilled.

And even if you could sell it, I'd steer clear from we buy any car for sure, you might as well just swap it for a bag of monster munch.

banks are advised/encouraged to treat people who are in financial trouble sympathetically

but they're also advised not to pay themselves outrageous bonuses

they're advised lots of things, many of which they will ignore. Santander happen to be the worst shower of f***ers ever, so you will have real trouble with them

sorry the advice isnt too helpful
I hate Santander with a passion, even today, 6 years after I closed my account!
