Nationwide Security Lapse

Options
The Sunday Times (November 12, 2006)

A laptop containing sensitive customer account information was stolen in a burglary at an employee’s home.

Will Nationwide inform X% of it's 11 Million customers that their personal details could have been compromised?

  • Many years ago a friend and I bought a job lot of computers. There was the entire Life Assurance marketing list on one of them

Fortunately we have scruples and cleared the lot :)

Nationwide are unable to inform at least one customer (me) if any of my personal or account details were on the stolen computer.

They have however assured me that Passowords and PINs remain secure and if I fall victim to ID theft or Fraud then I won't be liable.

Very reassuring I don't think. All I ask of Nationwide is that they inform customers whose details were held on the stolen computer that their personal details may have been compromised. Forwarned is forearmed.

    Comments suggestions welcome?

I hope Nationwide treat ID Theft Victims better than NatWest:
