urgent help needed

i have a ccj with tower capital, i arranged to pay £25 a month with them, i missed jan but they have now taken £170 from my bank leaving me with nothing for the month, I am unable to even get to work.
Do I have any rights?

I am pregnant and could lose my job if i cant get to work.
Plus i now have no money for hospital visits.

Thanks

  • Too late now I'm afraid as if you missed an arrangement to pay without discussing your options with them then I assume the £170 is the full amount. I suggest you switch banks so they dont take any more "charges" as well.

Can you get an advance from your employer or a friend, partner ?
  • but they have actually taken 42 over the agreed arrangment, can they get away with this? I am now left with no money to travel to work,

You broke the agreement by missing your January agreement and I assume that is why they grabbed your cash. In the short term you are unlikely to get the money back. Can you ask family/friends for a small loan to get you to work? You could also try speaking to the job centre plus to see if you can get a crisis loan. You could also try speaking to your bank and see if they will do a charge back, explain you are pregnant and unable to buy food or travel to hospital as a result and they may do it but it is quite rare.
There's no sense crying over every mistake.
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.
  • I think it also depends on what sort of arrangement you had with them - was it a continuing payment authority (I think that's what it's called?) -in which case then yes they can rinse your bank account.
Your best bet is to see if the bank can help- either reversing the transaction? or maybe giving you an overdraft. As soon as you can I would withdraw as much money from the account as possible and get a new bank account set up to get wages/benefits paid into as the risk is they might do this again.
Perhaps it's worth calling National Debtline to see if they can help but as Backon Track said sadly I fear you are unlikely to get the money back at least in the short term :( and you will probably need to make alternative arrangements :(
