Really simple mp3 player?

My mum has dementia which means she tends to find she forgets how to operate equipment - for instance her microwave which she has had for years she can no longer use as she can't remember how!:( She loves music but finds her CD player a mystery, I would like to buy her a mp3 player and fill it with her favourite music but it needs to be incredibly simple with just an on/off button and volume control - can anyone point me to a suitable one?

Hi there,
I am not very good with gadgets myself but last week bought myself a 4gb gogear vibe (made by Philips) from Argos for £39.99. It has 2 volume control buttons, a play/pause button and a home button that is used to select either music, photos or videos. It is really easy to use and i would recommend it for this reason.
It is simple to load music onto aswell. HTH0 -
Unfortunately although it's a brilliantly simple mp3 player it's still too complicated for mum! I really need one with just an on/off button and a sliding volume control. Unfortunately she sometimes (on her bad days) can't remember how to switch the kettle on! Bless her!

I think it may be a big ask, MM. Everything seems to be so complicated these days. I use a sansa clip 8mb. Got it from Amazon for a bargainous £40+. . It's very simple to use but not sure if it would suffice for your mum? It's got a push button on/off button and a menu button that defaults to 'music' and 'play all' and away you go although the volume control is more a 'rocker' button than a slider?0

Mmmm I think your right MB - I'm just wondering if maybe one of the very early mp3's might be better (before they got all clever with pics and video's?). I'll have to trawl the internet and see if any of the ones from 10 years or so ago might be simpler?
Thanks

I've found this very easy to work.

I have a sony MP3 player, its not particularly easy to use and I found it really hard to initally get music onto it in the first place, so may be one to stay away from. I got my nan an Ipod shuffle for her birthday last year, i had to put the music on it for her as she has no computer but she is finding it really easy to use, one major plus to this is that there is no screen (as it would be pointless having one as they tend to be too small for someone elderly to read anyway!) goodluck on the hunt0

Ok, hears one from left field. How about one of the cheap technika type ones from Tesco. My kids hated theirs simply because they were toooo basic.0

I would also suggest the ipod shuffle. Very simple to use, probably the most simple mp3 player you'll find. I'm sure there are other ones similar to the shuffle which may be cheaper.0

Yup, the iPod shuffle isn't as complicated and may fit the type of mp3 player you are looking for.0
