Hi Everyone,
A little help please. I have been receiving letters over debts i have and basically ignored them due to low income and these type of companies not wanting to reason with you (moorcrofts, fredrick dickinson, etc)
I am now in a better position were i am going to call them and offer a payment to them. My question is, do they have to accept what i offer them? Also, previously they have just said to me they aim to get the debt cleared off within 12 months and i need to pay xxxx and that's that, is that right?
Thanks for reading

Hi
The answers depend on what the debt is and how long it is since you acknowledged it.
For example debts such as Council Tax are a priority and you must pay that 1st. A lot of debts are statute barred so don't acknowledge the debt, just send a "prove it" letter to them 1st. They have to prove the debt is enfoceable, then you can start thinking about how to pay it back.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0 -
They don't have to agree with anything, though they will not refuse any payment. They are unlikely to reject a plan that pays off the balance within 12 months.
OK, that's answered your questions. Now, how long since you last acknowledged these debts, by payment or in writing? What are the balances and how much are you proposing as a monthly payment?0
