Rice question

I know the potential problems with reheated rice so I have a question. I had a takeaway curry (sorry I KNOW its not OS but it was really really nice and I split it into 2 portions so I didn't gorge myself....well thats my story and I am sticking to it lol) anyway I cooled the rice I wasnt eating then, straight away in cold water, then put in the fridge once I had finished the rest of the meal, intending to eat it the next day. I didn't end up eating it but I did put it in the freezer the next day, I presume this will still be ok if I reheat thoroughly?

Thanks in advance :)

It is impossible to tell with rice.. after almost killing myself with takeaway rice after eating it the next day.. I now gorge myself.. or bin what is left and I will eat ANYTHING.. mouldy bread, floor food, stuff the cat licked... everything!.. but no way will I risk rice poisoning again!!

    But yeah... I'd eat it!!!

  • I have done this before and suffered no adverse affects, just be sure to really make sure it is reheated thoroughly, and you might have to add a tbsp of water or two to keep it most whilst reheating.
and don't apologise for having a take away, everyone is entitled to a treat every now and then with their hard earned cash :-) ( in fact, I'm off out for a curry next sat, can't wait!!)

I'm terrible, I tend to pop any leftovers on a plate in the microwave (to keep any flies etc off) & usually end up forgetting about it until the next day. I've never had any ill effects.
  • Eek at pigpens answer though!! Maybe I should be more cautious in future!

I've forgotten about takeaway or homecooked rice for days & days & then eaten it, even sometimes as salads, with no ill effects

    still here :D
  • I'm feeling like I am being overcautious...a little :) but will be brave and eat it :) thanks peeps

There will be varied opinions on this one !i think the main issue is you aren't sure how long ago the rice was cooked, or if it has already been reheated.

Do check out the food standards agency for information if it helps

Ill merge this with reheating rice later - useful opinions in there for you too :)

    Zip :)

  • Good point zippychick, I hadn't considered what its life might have been like before it reached me....I always assume it will have been treated hygienically, however I suspect this assumption would change if I ever got food poisoning..touch wood never have, yet _pale_

i know, it's risky! I'm exceptionally cautious about rice especially as I seem to have a weak constitution for certain foods and simply can't risk food poisoning for 50p/£1 worth of rice! Let us know what you decide, i'm overparanoid, i know I am !
