Every now and again we get a chinese takeaway and there is always some sweet & sour sauce left over from the chicken balls. (The thick jelly-type one)
Rather than just bin it I put it in the freezer to "use later". So far I haven't come up with anything to make! There are about 4-5 little pots in the freezer now
I would like to make a soup with them but cannot find a recipe for this. Does anyone have one or do you know if it's ok to just pop the sauce into the soup throughout the cooking?
I'm usually really good at cooking and making concoctions that come out lovely but this has got me stumped!

Hi,
cut up some fresh veg and do a veg stir fry and throw it in.0 -
You could make your own chicken balls (chicken pieces coated in batter & deep fried) and use the sauce for that?Dum Spiro Spero0

I love it under the cheese on cheese on toast. Maybe that's just me right enough !0

I used to use mine with chicken dippers - now I chuck it in a stir fry as the sauce.

Bin it IMO
- nasty stuff full of MSG and stuff you wouldn't want inside you. There's being thrifty then there's that!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Lots of scope for me there.

I have frozen sweet & sour sauce before, but it might need a bit of a refresh with a touch of vinegar and a teeny bit of sugar when reheating. Heat it through with some prawns or chunks of chicken, or pour it over a fillet of fish and bake it - serve with noodles for a really quick tea.

ill merge this with the leftovers thread later
Why not use it as a dipping sauce with home made goujons?

Could you water it down a little and add leftover chicken and sweetcorn with it - maybe add a little spring onion? for a soup.0
