advertising a spare room

Options
Good morning folks, I am a keen theatre goer and would like to rent out my spare room to actors touring in theatre productions.
where would be the best place for me to advertise my room?
I ha thought of The Stage magazine, but this costs £30 a week, which at the moment I can't afford.
I currently have a band staying with me for a few weeks as they are recording an album in a local studio and have realised that this arrangement works quite well. They come in when I am in bed and I am at work when they are in bed, therefore no need to make strained conversation whilst sat round the tv in the evening.
I need to earn a reasonable second income as I have taken a pay cut.
all suggestions welcome.

cheers

  • Have you contacted the studios/theatres to ask if they have any suggestions? They may be able to give you contact with organisations/companies who could be useful.. or it may even be that they themselves do offer suggestions to the actors.
  • Maybe try the free classified websites like Gumtree and Vivastreet?Worth a shot.

This makes your house insurance void if they do not know.

You should contact you local theatres, they keep accommodation lists and send them to performers. My flatmate is an actor and receives these lists whenever he tours.

I have no problems with advising my insurers, and will factor in any increase in premiums.

Thanks for that, have posted on Gumtree, but not heard of Vivastreet. Will check it out.

As mentioned Gumtree, Craigslist etc are good. I think Kijiji has a UK section. Maybe put posters up in local theatres. Out of curiosity is it a reasonably well known band or just a local unsigned one?

Hi, thanks for that. Not heard of Kijjii, will have a look shortly. I was thinking of making a flyer and sending them to theatres.
The band is a local unsigned one.

You might want to take a look at crashpadder, I saw it mentioned in another thread when searching for somewhere to stay for a few weeks, it could be one method for you to use.
