    Hi bat-out-of-hell

A demand for £17.21 on a prepayment meter really shouldn't have gone to a DCA. If you haven't already, I would speak to us directly about this.

There are reasons why prepayment meters may show a debt. For instance, if an account was closed to estimated meter readings; if the Emergency Credit function was used but has not been repaid; or if there is existing debt from an old credit meter being collected through the prepayment meter.

Another possibility, although not so common these days, is where prepayment meters have not been updated with the latest prices.

This used to be the case with the old token meters where an engineer needed to adjust each meter individually following a price change. However, most token meters have now been replaced with new key meters.

Key meters can be updated remotely by sending an electronic message directly to the meter.

I'm not saying any of the above refers to your account; they're just examples of the sort of thing that may happen.

Have we not sent you any other correspondence about this? We usually write to customers several times before referring to a DCA.

As I say, contact us directly about this. Ask for a complaint to be raised, particularly if we haven't contacted you previously. This will put a stop to all debt follow up whilst this is investigated.

If, after 56 days, you're unhappy with the explanation/resolution proposed you can refer the matter to the Ombudsman for an independent ruling. I doubt whether it will need to go this far, though. This should be sorted quickly.

Hope this is of some use bat-out-of-hell. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.

    Malc

I will send you the account details by PM, I want a full apology from your company for this farce on this forum, and from your pet DCA, if not I will declare war on your company, as you are trying to gain monies you are not entitled too, you are fully aware of the new rules re pre pay customers, there was no argument over the £80 arrears on the gas account that was your fault, which I take as an admission of guilt, my question to you is how many customers are you fleecing by 'trying your luck' by sending accounts to your pet dca that don’t know they don’t owe you a penny?

edit, seems things have changed since i have been away, no PM option, i wonder why???? says a lot!
