My motgage interest is £50 per DAY.
If I don't overpay, I will pay off the mortgage in in June 2046 when I will be 82 years old having paid interest of £455,000.
Under my current plan I will pay off the mortgage in Dec 2013 having paid interest of £81,000.

    A saving of £374,000

That's enough to keep me focussed.

  • Hi again just caught up with the posts.Primrose I am old and in exactly the frame of mind you describe I'm afraid! I would def advise starting to overpay at amuch younger age than mine if you possibly can,I am coming up to 60 in May eeek! My mortgage is tantalisingly close to being paid off BUT I only earn minimum wage so I reckon it's gonna take me at least 2 more years,I'm on a fix til august 2012 @5.78%.Started overpaying last April and have managed to get it down to just under 12 thousand.I realise that must sound like peanuts to most peeps on here but it still feels like loads to me,it's all relative isn't it?Luckily for me Black Taxi I have no other debts but life chucks up some challenges now and again and my wm has just started making a hideous noise(gulp)!I appreciate all your posts on this thread, lots to keep me going, thanks

  • £50 a day. Ouch! A mortgage of £1550 a month would certainly keep me focussed on overpaying and getting everything down as fast as I can. Sounds like you're doing the right thing though -well done you :)
