Should I accept the liability on this delivery?

I ordered a washer and dryer from Tesco Direct and it was scheduled to arrive yesterday. I took the day off work and waited at home but the delivery never arrived. When I called Tesco today they said there was an error in their system and the courier never got the order, but they could deliver on Monday.
I don't have any more leave left this year (used my last day to wait for the delivery that never came) so there's no way I can be home to sign for the items. Tesco said that just this once as an exception to their usual policy they would be willing to leave the items in my garage. However, I would have to accept all liability for loss or damage of the goods.
I live in a very safe area and am not worried about robbery of the garage. But should I accept the liability? What if the lorry drivers just decide not to deliver it and say they did, or what if it gets banged about in the lorry and broken? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It happens all the time, which is a shame! and they don't even care whether you are working or not.
Would they be able to deliver on the following Saturday instead?
I doubt they will take responsibility for any problem that might occur if they deliver the item at your place without you being there.0 -
Personally I think Tesco owe you on this one! You may not have any leave but can you buy days off work? I think Tesco should owe you for this day off. When N-Power never showed up for me and I had to wait in from work, they refunded me £40 for me waiting in all day. Tesco should pay up!
As for liability, I'm afraid thats your call, if you give instructions for it to be left then ultimatly you are liable same as if they delivered to your front door, once its delivered to your instructions, you accept liability. Only difference is this time your askin them to deliver to a space and not to a person. Do you think you can get them to close the garage door or at least have a neighbout accept the delivery and close the garage door for you? wouldn't want to chance it myself, I'd be at work having kittens all day!0 -
I wouldn't accept it not only because of the liability, as you've said, what if they drop it or it is otherwise damaged? But also because you'll need to be in a position to move a heavy washing machine from your garage to where you want it (Assuming its final resting place differs.) They are not the easiest things to manhandle safely.
I'd insist on a Saturday delivery - if you don't work then - and threaten to cancel the order if they won't deliver at a time of your convenience.Come on people, it's not difficult: lose means to be unable to find, loose means not being fixed in place. So if you have a hole in your pocket you might lose your loose change.0
