progress or not?

I was feeling really good with myself that I have managed to stop spending on credit cards and paid off £1000-£1200 since September, as well as saving £3k (I know a lot of people say to pay off the debts before you save but I will be out of work for a year due to maternity leave and needed some savings to tide me over).
Then I found an old credit card statement from around a year ago and realised that I had about the same balance on my credit card then as now, so I've not come as far as I thought I've only paid off what I accumulated in the last year, which doesn't feel so great. However i have made great psychological strides during that time which I think will have greater impact in the long run than if I'd paid off a lot more of the debt, eg
I no longer use my credit cards or see them as a source of money
I write down all my spending and stick to a budget
I don't spend more than I earn, including money to savings and debts each month
I try never to buy anything at full price
If I want treats or extra spending money I sell unwanted stuff on ebay or amazon to pay for it.
So maybe I have made more progress than I thought?
The year before last I paid off a good wedge of my credit card, then I felt like I had earned the right to run it up again which is how I came to put another £1k on it before the penny dropped.
Whereas this time the money is coming off and staying off!

The difference between this year and last year is that you are no longer spending on the cards.......so this time next year where will you be? (in a much better place than this year or last year)
Definately good progress made - well done,
