Anyone know how to get Virgin Active gym discounts?

Hi,

Wondered if there are either any current special offers available (I've had a look but can't see anything), or any way of obtaining a discount e.g. through any credit card affiliate schemes etc?

Many thanks.

Hmm thought I was onto something - found PruHealth used offer free memberships! However now they offer a discount only, and the scheme is about to change again on 1st March.

You get half price membership which isn't too bad - however a policy is almost £40 a month for me so not actually worth taking out for the discount sadly. Might be of interest to anyone who actually needs health insurance though, so thought I would post the info.

Also found that if you pay on your Virgin card, you get one month's free membership in additional to your paid membership. So I will do that if nothing better turns up.

Still hoping someone has a better idea though!

I spoke to a few different VA gyms and they don't seem to offer discounts unless your company have joined their corporate scheme. They have a one fits all price (unless your a child or lifetime member or want to use off peak) but they will not barter for anyone as they believe this starts arguements. However I was told if you start with a price, when the new members prices rise, yours wont. Year on year.

Not bartering so as not to cause arguments? To protect their profits more like ;)

Well I've now found that if you pay for your membership with a Virgin credit card (which I just happen to have at the moment) you get one month free.

However, the normal £10 activation fee becomes £30 if you use this offer, so it isn't quite as good as it sounds.

I wasn't told about this lifetime membership option, he gave me a price list which I thought had all options on there - including on/off peak, OAP, kids, etc. But it's not mentioned, do you know anything more about it - is it more expensive?

    Thanks.

They don't really do deals I'm afriad! I've tried!

They used to do a Diamond 'fixed price for life' membership. I think that is what Jennie was referring to. I'm under the impression they have withdrawn this now but you could perhaps ask.

The only tip I can give is if you live in London (although some other cities have more than one VA). Some branches charge more than others, as they are nicer. Have you tried visiting another branch nearby? It may be cheaper.

Even if you join the cheaper, you can still visit the more expensive branches a few times a month. Most membership types have reciprocal access to other clubs - ie, you can visit gyms other than your 'home'. Check on the website to see which you can go to. I've joined a cheaper branch (south Wimbledon) but i often go to the Tower Bridge or Moorgate branches. If I'd joined with them directly it would have been £10-30 more a month.

It was cheaper by about £5 a month when I looked (about this time last year) and it was for life, not 10 years, not 25 years, life means life:cool: Maybe we could get them to run the prison 'service'?:rotfl:
