Hi!
Firstly, is your son the only one that plays on the xbox? If not, and someone else does, it may be worth you getting the "Family Pack". Basically, you get 4 x 12 month Live Gold memberships for £69.99.
The good thing is too that any 4 can use it. As long as the gamertag is on the xbox that the family pack is purchased on, the owner can then migrate their account back / onto a different console. Perfect for 4 friends to do, split the costs. As RRP of 12 month Gold is £39.99+ you can see the savings rom just two people getting it.
Me and my partner have an account. We decided to get it, and allowed our two daughters to have the others.
I know a few friends that have split the costs between them and got the pack.
If he is the only one who plays on it, have a look on ebay.
I have been lucky to pick up a 13 month one for £28.99.
But check their feedback and be aware! Thanks to all posters :A0 -
There's been a deal on recently for 12 months xbox live with 33% off (so around £27) and you get the codes to download two free arcade games too. I found it on the xbox 'dashboard' when I bought it, so if you're not very xbox savvy maybe ask your son to see if its still running? I've searched online and can't find a mention of the deal on the xbox website but it may be worth having a look on the dashboard just in case its still running0

That's a good idea, keep a look out for deals on the dashboard. But they seem to pop up once in a blue moon, and to people that are not very likely to use them. And also, you should note, that any memberships bought through the xbox are put on automatic subscription. My partner had an offer for 1 month for £1, and after that it charged us £4.99 per month. It was very hard to cancel it after that. We were on the phone to support for almost two hours to get it stopped. Thanks to all posters :A0
