cheap cravat/bow tie

Options
does anyone know anywhere in belfast where i could acquire a cheap cravat or bow tie? preferably second hand or ex hire etc? its for a costume for a weekend away and may get wrecked pretty quickly, so i don't really want a brand new one. or if i do get a new one it would have to be pretty cheap!

  • Crawfords, High St. Paid about £17 a couple of years ago. Get silk and don't run it, they're attractive.
  • For a bow tie I'd suggest a trip to Connswater where you could try Peacocks,Dunnes,Tesco or even the pound shop...they have the most amazing variety of stock ...I bought a huge yellow and red clown bow tie...complete with red sponge nose ...in the £1 shop just before Xmas.

Also try charity shops for both bow ties and cravats.

I bought a few cream cravats for £1 each (dont ask !!) at a shop which was closing down in Junction One before xmas but probably couldn't get it to you in time for the weekend...would cost us both more that that in petrol and hassle I'd imagine.

Bit of a cop out of a response - but ebay- if quality does not really matter I would take a look there!

i kinda need it for tomorrow so ebay is a no, but thanks.

i had been in a charity shop and got a waistcoat for £3.50, brand new that someone didnt want still in the packaging with tages etc! but it didn't have a cravat or bow tie, but i will try round a few more. i'm only wanting to spend around £10 max, hopefully less though.

Try All Sizes at Holywood Arches, he does formal suits and I know he has bow ties, shouldn't be too dear. Ring them first 028 90457799

  • Perhaps somewhere like the Rusty Zip on Botanic Avenue might have what you are looking for? Good luck!

yeah i will give them a ring as they are very close to my house, and i think there is a charity shop around near there too that i could have a look it. thanks!
  • Drew - a small scrap of fabric sould be easily fashioned into a bow tie or cravat with very little effort. If you pick up something in a suitable fabric in a charity shop and take it to a dressmaker - try the rusty zip - they should be able to do it quickly and cheaply.
