They can't send anyone to my house, can they? I did hear a tip that they couldn't even consider taking anything from childrens bedrooms, shall I stash my laptop and camera under the kids beds?
Mackenzie Hall do not have doorstep collectors (although they will write to you and say someone is going to visit) no-one will come and seize anything from you, they rely on people breaking to the pressure they put on you when you contact them and give them phone numbers etc, ignore all corespondance from this company, every couple of years you will probably recieve a reminder or threats of action ignore them all, there's nothing Mackenzie Hall can do.0 -
Mackenzie Hall DO have doorstep collectors. They have a subsidiary company called Meritforce which employs commissioned based collectors who go round door-to-door. They have absolutely no powers at all but they like to give the impression they are just one step below judges. If they call tell them to go away. If they don't call the police and tell them someone is hanging round your door. If they have a car make a note of its registration number.
Write and tell Mackenzie Hall this matter is statute barred. Send it recorded delivery. Keep the receipt and in a few days time check the Royal Mail website to see when it was delivered. Print that page off.
You could ask (demand) Mackenzie Hall to confirm in writing they are closing their file as a result of your letter. Don't bank on receiving anything though.
Then, when Mackenzie Hall think they've let enough time go past to have another go at this matter, you can report the idiots to the OFT who are reportedly watching them over the way they handle statute barred debt.
The best thing to remember is that once you write that letter you have total control.0
