  • Today is the first time I have ever been on a forun and I am overwelmed. What do the envelopes and the column next to the envelope mean. Any guidance on how to learn to use this properly. What does quote mean and go advanced. Is this as hard as it looks

Hi AuntieFore and welcome to the DFW board

It all looks a bit overwhelming when you start but it does all fit into place with time.

The envelopes tell you the status of the thread, the key is at the bottom of the page. So, for example, a red envelope which is open would be a "hot thread with new posts" ie, a thread in current use with new posts since the last time you visited the site.

If you want to reply directly to a post within a thread you would use the "quote" button.

If you want to reply to the thread itself you would use the "post reply" button.

Hope that helps to start with, you'll no doubt get some more hints and tips tomorrow.
