Bosch 34 or 40?

Options
I have decided to go for a Bosch Rotak, but just not sure what one to go for, the 34 or 40? Price wise there is only £20 difference.

The 34 has a 34 cm blade, 40l box,1700w,22mn,11kg
the 40 has a 40 cm blade, 50l box,1400w,21mn,12.4kg.

So, I guess the 40 will do the lawn quicker, have had a look on Amazon and some of the reviews on there say that the motor for the 40 burns out, but that can be avioded, and they come with 2 yr warenty.

My garden is approx 8m x 4 m, so 32msq (@100sq ft).

Thoughts?

Steve

I have the 34 and am delighted with it. I got it in the 2008 M&S Christmas sale for £49. I finally have a mower which actually cuts the grass rather than chewing it up or just flattening it. (I've had a Flymo, a Qualcast cylinder and a Qualcast rotary before.) I don't find cutting the lawns a chore any more.

I don't know anything about the 40 but given your description above, I would say go for the more powerful motor, which looks to being the 34.

Try a search for rotak in this forum - there are a few older theads. Apparently the 40 was a Which Best Buy.

Also, a few more threads coming up in a search for rotak in the Greenfingered MoneySaving forum.

I think the odd numbers - 37, 41 - are the cordless versions.
  • I've got a 34 - got it to replace an aging flymo that blew the cuttings all over the place. I do miss the ability to just swing it from side to side easily, but its far cleaner - no more sweeping up grass cuttings from the patio. For your size lawn it would be fine, cheaper to buy and easier to move around and store. I did think about the 40, but my lawn is quite small so I went for the 34.

My Flymo had a collecting box but it just couldn't cut the grass short enough for me. I love my 34 though.

    Thanks everyone

I have a flymo at the momment, probably a bit small for my garden, I have to empty it a few times, and it does tend to 'Rip' the grass rather than cut, but there again it does have plastic blades, so maybe that is why.
Anyway the 40 has a bigger box, so far less emptying and the metal blabe should cut rather than rip. My flymo doesn't relly have a height adjustment, I think the thing that you can put the blades in can go 2 ways up, to alter the hieght, but I never have, too much messing about, the 34 or 40 will be far eaisr.

    Thanks Again,

    Steve
