When do you pay the registrar?

Options
We're getting married at a hotel, I'm just writing down what needs paying and by when. But I can't for the life of me remember, when do you pay the registrar? Is it on the day of the wedding? A month before?

I've looked on the papaerwork they sent but I can't find it?

  • Payment for ours is due a month before the weddding but if we pay ours before the 31st March then we'll beat the price increase, so we'll be settling ours very soon.

Might be an idea to check if the prices will be increasing at any point this year.
    I :heart2: saving money
  • yeh we have paid the deposit, and our letter states payment due 4 weeks before the wedding

Will look into that one for sure. I was told that we'd have to pay whatever price was effective for that date but if we can pay early and save some money I'd rather do that. Mind, with a lot of things different area registrars have different rules so Chester are may be different to yours...but fingers crossed!

We paid 4 weeks before, when we went in to go through the ceremony & decide on our vows.

We paid a deposit to Blackpool last January, and had to pay the higher price for our wedding in September, so be warned - also, more councils will be stricter about it now they have got less money to play with.

Somehow I get the feeling Chester will be exactly the same...sighhhhh
  • OMG we haven't even been asked for a deposit? We've given notice at blackpool and then got some paperwork from warrington afterwards after the info was sent from blackpool but nothing has been mentioned about a deposit on any of it!

Oh crap I'd better call them tomorrow, this could be a first class balls up?

I'm going to spend the night feeling rather sick...

  • We're having to pay a month before. As someone else said we are paying the price valid at the date of the wedding, not at the time we're paying the fee if that makes sense.

We didn't have to pay a deposit so don't worry too much about that - they would have contacted you if they needed paying.
We had to pay our registrar two months before the wedding.

Ours is paid already. Here you have to fill out a form and send payment to book their services. It cost 3x the amount of a wedding during the week. We thought we were being money saving with our Sunday wedding but everything costs more sigh.
