Me and my partner are in great need of advice,
my partner spilt with his ex quite a few years ago since then he has found out she has black listed him, amongest many things she has taken out cataloges out in his name running up a massive bill, for the last 3 years she has paid this herself, even ringing the company to change her address and her surname to her married name,
the company ring him everyday sometimes 3 times a day for the money she owes with intreast being added every month,
he has informed the comany that it wasnt him that took this out but the fail to listern they first asked him to go to the police station to get a log number....we did this the police cant give him one as the crime has been comitted against the compay which is in a different county so there for they would have to take the ex to the police, they passed us to the a fraud place who gave us a log number but couldnt do anything unless the company speak to them which they wont do,
we have 3 lots of evidince that the bill is her, a full statement of items ordered which is 10 pages full of womens gear, 2 emails of her to say she cant pay it any more, and also the fact it has come out of her bank account for the last 3 years with her informing them of change of address and surname, the advice were looking for is, is it worth going to a solicitor with this or is there anything we can do...the bill at the moment stands £2000 and as were saving to move in together this will set us back a good few years, so please any advice would be fab thanks in advance Debs

You need to speak to the fraud department of the catalogue the money is owed to. They will no doubt ask your partner to prove when he moved out of the property and to put in writing (or fill in their version) of a statement with his signature that he is not the creditor and that it was fraud. Send any/all correspondence recorded delivery.
The police are correct, I was told the same when someone used my name and previous address. Apparently your partner has not 'lost' it is the company who have lost as they have been defrauded. Must admit it didnt feel that way and I really really wanted to punch her lights out!!!!!!
Your partner should get his credit record and check for any incorrect entries. He can ask them to make a note that this is being disputed and also have a flag added which means he gets extra security should she try it again....Light Bulb Moment - 11th Nov 2004 - Debt Free Day - 25th Mar 2011 :j0 -

A similar thing happened to me, except I didn't know the person who used my details to buy catalogue goods - first I knew about it was a letter from a Debt collector.
I phoned the Police who said they'd look into it, but there wasn't much they could do unless the catalogue contacted them, which was obviously unlikely. The police were great though, they done a bit if digging, found out who it was, even contacted the debt company to explain situation and catalogue to obtain copies of the orders placed. I also instructed a Solicitor (family friend so cost nothing) to correspond with the debt company - all he done was send a letter or 2 requesting they deal with him.
The Police were great, even though they said the catalogue would need to file a complaint against me for not paying, they couldn't step in. In the end I asked my bank to check my credit file and the debt had mysteriously disappeared from my file.
I know it's worrying, it was horrendous for me to go through that and I'd just found out I was pregnant too. It will hopefully eventually sort itself out for your partner.2017 - no clutter to be seen challenge: 72/2017
