releasing money from pensions

  • This is a great board and much of the advice given is invaluable.

BUT....not everyone is clued up about their personal finances. Fact.

Asking a question on one of these forums is a step closer to trying to figure out what - to some - can be a scary and impenetrable subject and, IMHO, doesn't merit ridicule.

Excellent question, and one I've not heard asked before.

Frankly, I don't believe dunstonh and Loughton's replies below. What do they know about anything? One is an IFA and part of the great pension scam, and the other is already retired and probably a bit doolally in the head.

    Your usual cuddly, tactful response.

Just because I'm already retired, doesn't make us 'doolally' in the head.

I can assure you that I retain all my marbles, and my financial acumen remains as sharp as ever. For example, I just opened a £300 regular saver at 8% which will give me £3600*0.08= £288 interest. Then I put my full Cash ISA allowance into the Halifax for a week and took it out again. The 2.8% will earn me £142.80 and I will do the same again next year. And if that doesn't make me money, then the £10,000 I have just invested with some people who phoned me the other day is guaranteed to make 20% this year, they said. That's allowing for the £30 cost of sending the money to Nigeria.

So I'm going to celebrate with a large Gin & Tonic, now. Sun having gone down over the yardarm....

I humbly retract my 'doolally' slur. I didn't mean it literally of course - it's just a word that popped into my head this morning, and I was determined to use it in at least one post today. You came to mind when I thought of the word. I don't know why.

    I don't know why either.

Do you want to buy one of my pensions?

    Make me an offer.

Seriously, though, I would be sooooo delighted if it was possible to buy other people's pensions, at whatever market rate you could pick them up for.

Capitalism and the freemarket at its purest - the ability to take advantage of people's stupidity, avarice and lack of ability to see further than the next flatscreen tv.

    We could make a killing.

I'm going to call my old mate Mr Cameron and see if i can influence his thinking.
