    Hi Deleted_User,

I think pastry would need something hotter than a slow cooker, but I'd love to find out I was wrong as it would save a lot of faffing about with steak and kidney when I want to make a pie. Hopefully someone who's tried it will come along soon.

The only thread I could find on this is this one: Slow Cooker/Puff Pastry help please

  • Definitely not ;)

Slow cookers are indeed brilliant for some things But not EVERYTHING ! sorry to shout, but sometimes I think peeps get carried away with the wonders of slow cookers :D

Actually now I come to think of it you can cook suetcrust pastry in a slow cooker as that needs a moist heat :)
  • The answers above of course explain why I have ended up with a stodgy gloop!
  • Suet pastry is delicious cooked in the slow cooker. Steak and veg puddings (don't like kidney!) are a family favorite in our house. It's very fast to prepare too.

Keep an eye on the water level in the slow cooker though, I've found I need to top mine up after a few hours.

You might be able to do it in one of those ones with the removeable crockpot where you can cook in the metal bit - reckon you'd need to have that to make it rise & brown. Otherwise, it's the oven for the pastry.
