Evening venues - Lancaster/Carnforth

Hi everyone!

We are getting married at Kendal on 25th June and gave our notices yesterday so it's all going ahead now!:j

We have a problem with the evening venue we booked though. They are now saying that as it is situated in a residential area with lots of older peoples homes we would have to turn the music off by 11pm and start to pack up and leave

We obviously don't want to do this. We are not having a day do, only an evening reception and are doing our own buffet, etc so want to be able to stay late to party!

Does anyone know of anywhere in the Lancaster/Carnforth/Milnthorpe area that isn't going to cost us a fortune where we can do our own buffet? We are able to get a mobile bar so that's not an issue.

There are several clubs we thought about but the rooms are just not quite nice enough inside (I realise you get what you pay for but would like somewhere that isn't TOO shabby if you IYKWIM!):)

Thanks x

  • I don't know about doing a buffet, but a friend of mine got married here and it is a really lovely building: http://www.leightonhall.co.uk/

I love Leighton Hall it is a beautiful building but unfortunately it is out of our price range.
  • Have you thought about the local village halls - there are some lovely ones in the area! We are thinking of using Over-Kellet village hall or Arkholme village hall.

You could also try Lancaster University or University of Cumbria about their venues and whether they would allow you to do your own buffet. I know that University of Cumbria has a function room with lovely views across Lancaster.

Another place you could try is Carnforth Station visitor centre - nicer than it sounds!! I went to an awesome function in there last year and I know of people who had their wedding reception there too. http://www.carnforthstation.co.uk/room_hire.html

I'll let you know if I think of anywhere else!
  • I second the function room at the University of Cumbria, it's lovely up there and quite a new building so nice modern decor inside.

There is also Rowley Court that has a function room, it's on the A6 as you head out of Lancaster.

Or Longlands at Carnforth? Though you might not be able to have your own food there.

The Park Hotel in Lancaster has a function room to hire for wedding do's.

Didn't know that you could have a wedding do at Carnforth railway station, better not tell me OH or he'll want to change ours to there.

We are having our wedding reception at the Castle Green Hotel in Kendal, so excited :D

It is Over Kellet Village Hall that we booked and want us out by 11. Arkholme is lovely but costs £700 +!!!!!!!

Never thought of the visitor centre. Didn't realise it did functions. Will def try the uni's too.

Never heard of Rowley Court. Will look it up. I wanted Castle Green originally too and got a good price from them originally but then our plans/circumstances changed. We were going to go to Thurnham Hall too as this is beautiful but again due to circumstances had to rule this out too. Cheap and cheerful's how we have to roll!!!!!

Edit: And my OH refuses Longlands - own buffet or not!!!
  • Cripes!!! Didn't realise Arkholme village hall would cost that much  Think I'll give that one a miss!

We've had to postpone our wedding til next summer so we haven't actually booked anything yet. Hope you find something soon though :) I'll keep racking my brains for you!

We had the same reaction as you! When I spoke to the woman I nearly choked! Got some good prices from the Park Hotel now too although I'm still looking!
  • Ooh I've just thought of another one. The Boot and Shoe pub has a seperate function room which can accomdate wedding parties. It has a nice outdoor area as well for guests use if the weather is nice.

The Ashton memorial can also be hired for wedding receptions, think this is a fairly new thing so not overly sure of the details, might be worth a look?
