Play.com & Independant Compensation!

For you Dudes disappointed with the recent shambles with the above offer - read on....

I called the play.com helpline to complain (nicely of course) - as soon as I mentioned taking my business elsewhere the chapper told me that it had been decided by play.com that customers who were "disappointed" could have 10% off their next order.

The chapper simply accessed my account, added a file note and told me to telephone my next order through and the discount would be applied.

In the words of the BBC 'If you've been effected by the contents of this special offer you can call 0845 8001020 where a play.com representative is waiting to talk to you'.

Good luck,

Duder

It get's 7.9 on IMDB which I would have thought was a much more reliable site than RT for reviews!

I think it's fair to say that if you're unimpressed by A Very Long Engagement then probably none of the world cinema films were for you - they're all broadly similar in content. Amelie might be a bit lighter, Crouching Tiger might have some sword fights but really...

It's a good flick. Tautou is brilliant, it's a bit too scripted but it's well worth watching once. No-one in their right mind could deem it "bad" though, it's much too well created for that even though not everyone will enjoy it.

I loved Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and had hoped to get that, or at a push Amelie, which I thought was a good film but did not enjoy as much as CTHD.

Have to say A Very Long Engagement isn't really getting me excited, so think I may call the helpline.

    Thanks to the Op.

  • I am gonna give them a ring today. 10% off my next order sounds good as I've been waiting to buy something from Play :) Thanks
  • Try it you might be surprised - its a really well made film. World Cinema films tend to be film lovers films and aren't your run of the mill blockbusters that can be watched once and then forgotten, moreso they are well crafted stories.

The RT reviews are also favourable.
I think it's possible misterel was employing irony.
Nothing in it, nothing in it but a ribbon round it .....
  • I was thinking if DVDs that were free were worth £5.99, then you would have to spend £60+ to gain with the 10% offer.

However, if I had the choice of one of ten free DVDs that did not interest me or 10% of something I wanted, then its a no brainer.

I did not go for this freebie, but one of my family members did, and had one choice of DVD when he used his code - which was 'sold out' immediately, so he either got the last one, or missed out.

Well done to play.com for their response to this. Excellent customer service

No one has mentioned that the emailed code when it arrived didnt work, well for me anyway. I called the CS at play.com and mentioned it. They told me they were aware of the problem and another code would be sent out in the next few hours. In the same time the choice of films went from 3 down to 1.
CS did tell me that as it was a technical problem that if the film I wanted wasnt available then call again and they would try and get the film I did want out to me.
    It worked for my brother.
