  • Speaking as a vegan any nuts, dried fruits (ask in Julian Graves cos some of theirs are not vegan - can't think what they have put on them:eek: ) but especially Green and Black choc :j - just check on the back which are vegan - are very acceptable. I have been given many different gifts over the years as a teacher - one of the strangest was a pineapple - but these are definately better than yet another scented candle.:D

you get honey on a lot of dried bananas and sometimes figs maybe that's why.

  • Hi

Just wanted to say this is a very thoughtful idea and well done on doing your research first you clearly wish to get it right. :T

I think the recipient will be delighted to have such a well thought out gift. I say this as we once received a home made food hamper as a gift from a relative that included goose pate and meat products and we have been vegetarians for over 10 years.

However, all was not lost as we turned it into a lucky dip and anyone who called round to the house over the Christmas period was asked to pick out an item.

  • Have picked mum's brain - she used to be vegan, and is now veggie, like me.

She says that some Christmas Puddings are vegan. Just watch out for things like suet (unless it says vegetable suet) and eggs. I have a recipe - just say if you want me to post it.
    Cranberry Sauce.
A jar of mincemeat (providing that it has vegetable suet in, not just suet listed in the ingredients otherwise it will be beef)
    Crystallised fruit.
Turkish Delight (so long as it doesn't have gelatine in it)
Mince pies (the co-op does ones where the pastry is done with vegetable fat and veggie mincemeat apparently).
Soya Cream (To go with the xmas pudding - Alpro does some)
Apparently the co-op also does veggie beer and wine.
Fruit and nut mix, or just walnuts / hazelnuts etc.
Dried / vacuum packed / pureed chestnuts.
Small packet of dried porchini mushrooms?
Co-op also does toiletries not tested on animals.

    Soy candles?

Don't suppose you are near manchester? - unicorn grocery in chorlton stock lots of vegan-friendly alcohol - in fact I think pretty much everything they sell is vegan - they don't sell milk, eggs or any meat.

Im a veggie and the CO OP fair trade wine is lovely, and only costs £4.99.

So its vegan friendly, cheap and helping a good cause to (Fair Trade).
  • Dried mushrooms. Fantastic in risotto :)
  • Thanks to everyone, I have managed to find local Holland and Barrett so will go in one day this week. Just had wicker hamper picnic basket delivered, purchased on ebay, its very big, so will be able to fill it with loads of goodies, now feel that although I am not a practicing veggie, I am not as ignorant as I used to be re the types of food.
All food will have to be prepared as I have not got the time to cook. Only the non-veggie employee to buy for now, can incorporate that in with my weekly shop.
