Showing my face & an update

Hi,

Back at the beginning of the year I was here, with a hubby out of work, more money going out than comming in, and well, life just felt awful.

I've posted a few times since, but if I'm honest, I've been mega busy.

ANyway, hubby now has a perm job. It's 1.5k more than his last job. (I'll admit that I'm facing redundancy, but I'm positive at the moment)

I'm very careful with money now, and I have saved up £2000!
I am very dubious about the amount of tax credit we get, as it's gone UP dramatically, yet the family earning this year will only be £1K less than last year. I keep updating the tax office, to make sure, but it comes back around the same. (but I'm trying to save that money, just in case)

Christmas gifts have all been brought and paid for.
I now shop mainly at Lidl, and I buy their meat if I think it's a good price / looks good, and well it's no where near as bad as I thought it would be.
I've begun to cycle to work when I can, and I've only had my central heating on once during this cold snap. (although I've had the fire on twice) Oh and I got the guest duvet out and put it on top of my duvet.

I also began to watch what G & E consumption we're using, but I've not 'analysed it' yet

All electrical items get switched off at the end of the day (at the mains) unless the plug can't be reached, or it's a alarm clock! (or the phone!)

I've introduced beans and pulses into our diet.

So a huge thank you to everyone who kicked me.
I've done it, and I'm NEVER going back.

And to those of you who are just embarking on this, you can do it, you just have to really want to do it, and take baby steps.

GW

    Hi Greenwellies,

I'm a fairly new recruit on here, so hadn't come across your particular threads before. It's great to hear that things are going so well for you, and that nearly a year on you're still on the DFW wagon(or looking at your sig should that be just DF wagon!).

Probably good thinking with the tax credits - overpaying & then reclaiming seems to have pushed quite a few people on here over the edge with meeting monthly bills, and at least you're earning interest on the money!

Nothing is impossible if you have got the will there is always a way, achieving what you want in life is sometime a long and hard struggle requiring self discipline and sacrifices and the end result is always rewarding. :T so well done Greenwellies for being an inspiration to others :T

    Gosh, really!!

Wow you must have a very sensitive soul to be thinking of me.

I buy their frozen chickens, one will make a roast dinner, the other the breasts are used for sandwiches and the legs are saved for another meal another day.

I have't got round to making soups with it just yet. I have done it in the past, but I wasn't over impressed with it.

Oh tell a lie, I made, chicken noodle soup, a few peices of the chicken meat, some standard noodles, and chicken stock cube, it went down a treat

    :)

Hi! I remember your original thread. Congrats to your OH on his new job - it must be a big relief for you all. And you had a pretty rough ride when you first posted, so good on you for taking it all on the chin and being prepared to listen to other people's point's of view, I think you did a lot better than I would have done in your situation! Fingers crossed that things are on the up for your family now.
