Old fashioned sore throat remedies ?

Has anyone got a non-pharmaceutical. 'old wives' remedy for a very sore throat. I have gargled with aspirin (no good at all) and now I'm just swigging down warm liquids as fast as I can, but hoped someone wise might have a simple home remedy (tried scotch, with and without lemon - both too harsh on v sore throat, honey not brilliant as I'm diabetic)

My mum, many years ago used to roll a bit of butter into a ball and coat it in sugar,
the idea was that the butter (sorry marg) soothed the throat and the sugar gave it a bit of
a scratch. Sounds silly but i seem to remember it working, make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
You could try gargling with warm salt water - be careful not to swallow it though, I've done this in the past and it made me feel sickAlways be yourself, unless you can be a Unicorn - then always be a Unicorn !

The only thing I've found which really works for more than a few minutes is paracetamol.0

Gargling salt usually helps me but difflam spray is the best thing since sliced bread for sore throats if you decide to go for a pharmaceutical cure.0

Salt water, honey and lemon drinks or if you have a sage bush a sage tea is very good for the throat. If you end up buying something I cannot recommend olive leaf extract in liquid form enough. My OH used to get constant throat infections and he had this recommended by a singing teacher and it is brilliant at clearing up throat infections quite quickly.Thailand 3010/15000 20150

Thanks everyone, I will try all those (the sugar and butter doesn't sound completely delicious, but I'll try anything) Those were just the sort of remedies I was looking for :beer:0

In the past, people on another forum suggested slippery elm tea to me. I have bought some, but since buying it have not had a sore throat, so haven't tried it yet!!!:rotfl:
Just google slippery elm sore throat; a whole load of info/sites come up.
You can buy the tea...or lozenges (although I suspect the tea is more money saving!)...in pretty well any health food shop
I hope you find a solution soon....a sore throat is a real pain in the neck!!!LOL

Honey and lemon made into a hot drink is the best IMHO. Oh and of course paracetemol

Slippery elm is also used to treat constipation - it might be good to know this, just in case!0 -
Peel and slice a lemon. Sprinkle lots of salt on lemon slices and eat them. They're nowhere near as bad as this sound, and don't know why it works, but it does
