buying or making your own masala?

I'm looking out for a really good, medium strength masala to use in veggie dishes and chicken curries and for marinating whole chicken.
I haven't found anything I like in the supermarkets and as I'm not well, don't want to trek around East London looking for shops (I'm sure there are loads) that sell already made masala. I would be interested in buying online though, for delivery.
Can anyone recommend anything that's really good please? (no added salt or sugar)
I've finished my old one (gift from Indian friend) and am using caribbean hot sauce instead for the moment and want a variation.
Alternatively as long as all the ingredients are to be found at Tesco, I could make my own and would appreciate some ideas or recipes?
I could keep a small tub in the fridge although cupboard is easier as I have a small fridge in a flat.
thanks!
