Frustrated with Weight Watchers ProPoints

Hi I am new to weight watchers and therefore I am not comparing with the old points system, however am I the only one finding this plan complicated? The system for calculating pp is cumbersome, with or without the calculator, and the addition of extra pp when you have 2 of some things gets confusing.
I have been following it for 2 weeks and find it so time consuming and when I think I am making a sensible healthy choice eg, a 175g salmon portion I find its got the same propoints as a packet of walkers crisps and a cadbury flake??
Considering we are money savers I also feel that WW is ripping us off in that we need to buy the books for eating out and brand names (never mind the endless calculators, scales, pedometers and clickers). I have tried finding these pp online but its a lot easier reading the books. I've also heard many previous members saying they have had to buy everything again as the old products are not comparable.
Any tips? Thanks

My tip - try slimming world. SW encourages you to eat good healthy food, for example salmon is free on SW! You can eat as much of it as you want! In reality SW wants you to make the right choices with food, and as you say there is no logic in salmon being the same number of points as crisps and chocolate!
This isn't me saying that WW is bad, but it doesn't work for everyone. I tried it and found myself going "oh well if I skip breakfast then I can have a bar of chocolate for the same number of points". So I ended up hungry still eating the wrong food, just less of it.0 -
I agree! After having had some success with the old WW I went back as sadly I gained all the weight I had lost.
The new system is doing my head in and I am just not motivated to do it this time. I find myself totally resenting the programme.0 -
Thank you OP.
I know this might sound stupid but its nice to know there are other WW's annoyed about it.
I have just cancelled my monthly pass, I am really not getting along with it and its a shame after loosing 13lb on the old plan that there is no where on the website to still follow the old plan.
Just found my local slimming world group and off to the thread for some hints and tips!0 -
Thanks, I am going with a friend so would feel like I have abandoned her if I go elsewhere and she is OK on this diet as she is happy to live on ready meals and WW pointed foods. But this just adds to my belief thats its a WW conspiracy to get us to spend more money ha ha! And the monthly pass (I have one) thats another swizz 'cos you have to cancel by a certain date or carry on paying into the next month! Oh don't get me started :lipsrseal however I would really like to give it a try I don't like giving up so soon. The most potent weapon of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed. Steve Biko0

Do you use the online tracker? I find it so much easier than faffing with books and scales and lord knows what else
The online tracker has most of the items in the shopping books on it - although it is lacking with the eating out points but they are supposed to be adding those. You can add your favourites to a list and in a few weeks you will probably find most meals are just one-click adding and it does all the mulit-portion working out for you
You get free access to all the online stuff with your monthy pass and the forums are good for quick answers (but very difficult to search for past threads)
I buy very little of the ww branded stuff - I will buy the odd box of sweets or biscuits if they are on offer - none of them are so wonderful that I 'have' to have them and the crisps/biscuits are available in £land often on a 3 for 2 if you want to buy them.
Try the online trackers - seeing as you've already paid for your monthy pass - don't buy any of the gumf that goes with it (pedometors/scales/books etc) - and see how it goes.
TBH I always say to new members that the only bit of equipment I think they really need is the calculator - the rest is fluff - and I run the shop in our meeting and am supposed to flog it all
and if it doesn't work for you in a few weeks then leave - your friend should be used to the meeting by then and hopefully be able to continue on her own and you can find the one that does work for youI have a friend who can't get her head round WW but has done amazingly on on SW - and SW baffles me :rotfl:

Sorry- a bit confused here. My mum is a WW leader and I help her out at her meetings sometimes. I am told that with the MP you can cancel at any point, they refund you the difference- others have done so and confirmed this- have they changed the rules?0 -
It's a scam designed to confuse you so you can be constantly upsold to - learn about healthy eating and leave that cult behind.0

sarah*a - Hi yes I use online tracker which is how I realised that sometimes 2 pp = 3 and 4 can = 5. I use the tracker to search for food but the answers are random not in alpha order or pp order. Is there a better way of searching?
jenniewb - Yay maybe you and your mum can give me some tips?
As for the monthly pass p18 of the booklet states that you can cancel in the first half of the month and your pass will run until the date on your card in the current month. If you cancel in the second half of the month your pass will already have been issued and will run until the end of the following month. Pro-rated refunds are not given unless you have special circumstances eg pregnant or reach goal.
I don't know, has this has changed as I don't know the old rules?
ckg. I know this, which is why I am struggling with the ethos but without the weekly weigh in I always start my diet the next dayThe most potent weapon of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed. Steve Biko0 -
I went to weight watchers just before Christmas as they were changing over from the old system. I'd previously found WW to be okay, but this new system was very different and to be honest I just couldn't be bothered with it
too much hassle with counting points, tracking them, logging them, working them out.
I'm now just counting calories and exercise using www.foodfocus.co.uk, which another MSE member told me about. I really like it and it's totally FREE!

Not the same as the old rule no, before (if they have changed) you could cancel at any time and they would refund you any difference, other members have done this, some would go on holiday for 2 months at a time (wow!) and just cancel, restarting when they got back and getting refunds for any time they were not in the UK/using the card, they never seemed to have any problems so I assumed it was that way for everyone, plus this is what I had been told by a head office person who came to view our meeting about 18 months ago.
I can try helping you with tips but myself, I don't follow the programme, I follow my own logic and prefer to decide things for myself, it seems to work for me and I prefer the authority over knowing exactly what I am eating and why. Its a little obsessive but thats me, I never set out to help my mum to join in with the programme, I just help her out as shes my mum and her helpers in the past have been unreliable, I can pass on any questions you have though?0
